Rose and Fiona

Affectionately called the Bitties, Rose and Fiona are our most senior miniature horses.

Rose came to Pandanwal in June of 2021 when a social media follower alerted us to a pair of miniature horses listed on Craigs List for $200. The low asking price put the pair in danger of being bought by horse dealers with a high possibility of the pair going to auction. We borrowed a friend’s truck and trailer and purchased the pair for $50 each. Soon after arrival, we were able to place Rose’s partner in a loving, lifetime home with a local, trusted family. Rose will spend the rest of her days here at Pandanwal. She is estimated to be in her mid 20’s. She is blind in her right eye and her left front leg is bowed, but that does not slow her down or dim her spirit. Rose prefers solitude and is often seen grazing away from the herd. She enjoys being groomed and receiving cookies.

Fiona was confiscated by the Pennsylvania SPCA as part of a cruelty and neglect case. She came to Pandanwal in early 2021. She arrived underweight. Fiona is the product of a back yard breeder. She has very poor conformation. Her head is large, she has poor dentation, her ears are tiny, she has a large barrel, her front legs are thin, and her back legs are cow-hocked. Because of Fiona’s mouth and teeth, it is very difficult for her to eat grain or hay. We supplement her grain with soaked alfalfa pellets to make sure she can eat enough forage. Unfortunately, there this nothing that can be done to correct the condition of her back legs. They do not cause her pain, she just walks funny, and we are unable to trim her back feet. Rest assured, Fiona can run and kick with the best of them. A few times she got loose and was very hard to catch. This spirited little girl has a huge personality and a mind of her own.

Bob

Bob, a white standard donkey, was confiscated by the Pennsylvania SPCA as part of a cruelty and neglect case. He came to Pandanwal in early 2021. Bob was kept in a stall 24 hours a day for most of his life. His feet were horribly over grown and slippered, and his coat...
