In late August of 2020, we were contacted by another rescue group who asked if we were able to help any draft horses. We were full, but agreed that we could take one horse. Clyde was delivered on September 4th. When he stepped off the trailer, the first thing I noticed was the size of his head and his feet! Then I looked him over. He looked afraid, confused, exhausted, and defeated. His tail was docked and his forelock and main were roached. He was painfully thin. It was obvious this poor old man spent his life working hard in the fields. Clyde was happy to see Elinor, who was also in quarantine. He was equally as happy to see piles and piles of hay, although the first thing he did was get a long drink of fresh water.
We will never know Clyde’s story before coming to Pandanwal. We have learned is that the big man is in his early 20s and stands 16.2. Clyde is as gentle and laid back as he is tall. He loves attention and to be scratched and have his face rubbed. We have worked hard to get Clyde’s weight up and keep it up. It is a constant battle, but this gentle giant is so worth it.
