Cows

Our little cow herd consists of Raven, Martha Mae Moo, and Gloria. All arrived at Pandanwal at different times and from different circumstances.

Raven came to us in July of 2021 when she was 6 months old. Our friends took her in shortly after she was born because her mother rejected her. Raven was a sick little calf who did not have the benefits of nursing from her mother. Our friends cared for and nurtured Raven through a really difficult time. As Raven got older and stronger, they knew that she would not get very big, her front leg was very crooked, and she walked with a limp. They worried that Raven would get hurt in their herd of large dairy cows. Our friends contacted us and we agreed to bring little Rae into our program.

A short time later, our horse hauler contacted me about a super friendly cow she found on the feed lot. She said that while she was looking at horses, this cow kept following her and mooing. She felt bad for her and wanted to help her. Our hauler said that she would buy the cow and bring her to us, if we would take her. Later that evening, Martha Mae Moo was delivered.

Gloria came to us through our work with the Pennsylvania SPCA. Gloria was surrendered to the PSPCA after being confiscated for neglect. She was very, very thin and living in deplorable conditions. After she was rescued and her case went through the legal process, Gloria joined our little herd. She was not well socialized and was not used to being handled. With a lot of love and patience, Gloria now enjoys human interaction.
